Packers quarterback Jordan Love is confident he’ll play in the playoffs
After suffering an elbow injury to the Bears, the Packers quarterback has no concerns on his availability against Philadelphia.
Two top-10 offenses and defenses will square off when the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles meet in an NFC wild-card game Sunday.
But the Eagles, the second seed, are the clear favorites (-4.5) against a Packers team that has been out of sync of late.
So, can the Packers (11-6), who went into Dallas last year and had a dominant victory on the road in the opening round of the postseason, pull off the upset again against a No. 2 seed and the NFC East champions?
Jordan Love and the seventh-seeded Packers will have their hands full with an Eagles unit ranked No. 1 in total defense and No. 1 in passing defense.
The Packers can look at their Week 1 matchup against the Eagles (14-3) and know they had some success — the 29 points they scored in the loss were the third-most allowed by Philadelphia this season — but Green Bay also failed too many times on third down (they were 3-of-11). And their five-point loss to the Eagles began a season-long trend for the Packers of struggling against playoff teams.
The Packers went 0-5 against teams that had a better record than them and were 2-5 against playoff teams.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts leads an Eagles offense loaded with playmakers, headlined by running back Saquon Barkley, who led the NFL with 2,005 rushing yards. But Hurts’ status is in question as he remains in concussion protocol and has been out since Dec. 22.
If Hurts is unable to go, that could affect the betting odds for the game.
But here’s an early look at the latest odds, stats and schedules ahead of the Packers-Eagles playoff game:
Odds courtesy of BetMGM as of Tuesday.
The first game between the Packers and Eagles was over four months ago so it’s hard to take too much from that contest. What we do know is the Packers haven’t won a big game this season. There’s questions about Hurts’ status but if the Packers can’t slow down Barkley it won’t matter.
And most alarming is the Packers’ scuffling passing game of late. Love, who left last week’s game with an elbow injury, hasn’t looked sharp in a while and the loss of wide receiver Christian Watson is significant. That bodes trouble against the NFL’s best passing defense.
The Packers will counter with their best player, running back Josh Jacobs, but it won’t be enough. The Eagles beat the Packers just as they did in Brazil in the season opener. Philadelphia 28, Green Bay 24.
ESPN’s analytics model gives the Eagles a 51.2% chance of winning.
