The Packers opted not to put their quarterback on injured reserve, which would have ensured he missed a minimum of four games, indicating they thought he could return sooner. And then throughout the week, head coach Matt LaFleur did not rule out the possibility Love could be well enough to play against Indy, saying Friday that he was “doing good” and getting better each day before the team initially deemed him questionable.
Whether that work will be enough to actually get him back on the field this week is still the question, though, and Saturday’s news indicates that possibility is less and less likely.
Malik Willis is in line to be the starter if Love is indeed ruled out on Sunday. Willis would be backed up by Sean Clifford, who was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday.
