Love suffered an MCL sprain in the Packers’ season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles during the NFL’s first-ever game in South America. Initial reports had Love missing three to six weeks, so he’s still on the early side of his recovery.
Love, who threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener, was questionable two weeks ago to play the Indianapolis Colts, but was downgraded to doubtful the day before the game. Last week, he was questionable and during this past week said he was close to playing.
Conventional wisdom suggests Love would be even closer this week, but a cautionary advocate could argue that Green Bay is 2-0 with Willis under center, so why not rest up Love until there is no question about his health.
The 25-year-old is coming off his first season as the Packers’ starting quarterback, and he came on late in the campaign to flourish. He finished the regular season throwing for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns as he led Green Bay into the playoffs.
Without Love, head coach Matt LaFleur has teamed up with Willis to stunningly turn in back-to-back stellar showings for wins against the Colts and Tennessee Titans.
Going up against the undefeated Vikings presents the unenviable task of facing Brian Flores’ pressure-based defense.
Will Love return from injury for the first-place battle or will Willis have one more week as the starter?
