A new report has found the best cities in the United States for sports.
And one of the top three is right here in Pennsylvania.
Conducted and published by WalletHub, the study named Pittsburgh as the third best for sports lovers in the nation. Philadelphia received an honorable mention in seventh overall, meaning it ranked amongst the top 10.
In second place was Boston, Mass., and in first, Los Angeles, Calif.
“Los Angeles tops the list of the best sports cities this year because of its strong appreciation for all types of sports, numerous professional teams, and proximity to iconic stadiums and arenas,” reads the report. “Some venues of note include Dodger Stadium, SoFi Stadium, Memorial Coliseum and the Rose Bowl.
“Los Angeles hosts professional teams across various sports, including two each in the NBA, MLB, MLS, and NFL. The City of Angels ranks as the best city for basketball fans, in large part due to the monumental success of the Lakers and the abundance and affordability of Division 1 college basketball.”
WalletHub researchers made their deductions after ranking 400 cities across the country against five major sports: football, baseball, basketball, soccer, and hockey. Final rankings were placed on lists based on city size as well as a general one.
“Sports can cause rivalries between cities, but can also give people a deep appreciation for places other than their hometown,” said WalletHub analyst, Chip Lupo. “The best sports cities overall tend to be those with the highest-performing, most popular professional teams, like Los Angeles, Boston, Pittsburgh and New York.
“When you filter by city size, though, there are a tone of amazing local sports scenes to discover. For example, Green Bay, WI, is a midsize city with one of the richest football cultures in America, and Clemson, SC, is a small city high-level, affordable games across multiple sports at the collegiate level.”
