MUSKEGON, MI – The West Michigan Conference showdown between the North Muskegon and Ludington boys basketball teams lived up to the hype Tuesday night, as both squads needed an extra session to decide the winner.

Adam Dugener led North Muskegon with 30 points, four rebounds and four steals, while Braylen Burrell added 14 points and four rebounds, David Markiewicz had seven points and two blocks and Chuck Meyer had three points and eight rebounds.

Fruitport 48, Hopkins 39
The Trojans held a narrow 24-22 lead at halftime and ended the game on a 16-11 run to secure an O-K Silver Conference win on Tuesday.
Hudson Hazekamp finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead Fruitport, while Dexter Lilllmars added 17 points, six rebounds and two steals, DayDay Williams had 11 points and seven rebounds, Trevor Rusnak had seven rebounds and Grade Anspach had five assists.
“The stat of the night was 21 offensive rebounds for us and just one for Hopkins,” said Fruitport head coach Steve Erny. “I hope we don’t have too many more cold shooting nights like we did tonight, but it was good to find a way to win even when those things aren’t going your way.
“Hudson Hazekamp played like a man today. Dexter Lillmars was once again efficient from the field and had a huge first half to help us stay afloat when others were struggling. Keontay Thompson and Trevor Rusnak both rebounded really well inside for us and played with a lot of toughness.
“This may very well be the best record to start a season we’ve had here at Fruitport. We have a long way to go, but I am pleased with this group’s efforts and growth so far.”
Fruitport (7-2) will host Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian (7-2) on Friday.

Western Michigan Christian 53, Muskegon Catholic Central 51

“It was another great high school basketball game tonight,” said WMC head coach Matt Haveman. “We have a lot of respect for Muskegon Catholic and their boys basketball program. I’ve never run a box-and-1 defense in my career but Bradley Richards deserved 100 percent of our attention on defense tonight.
“I’m very proud of Gabe VanBaale and Luke Proctor for face-guarding him and making it difficult for Bradley to catch the ball in the first half and down the stretch.
Richards finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds to pace Muskegon Catholic, while Bryan Convertini added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Western Michigan Christian (6-2) will travel to Oakridge (6-4) on Friday, while Muskegon Catholic Central (3-5) will host Byron Center Zion Christian (6-2) on Friday.

“I’m guessing most of the people in the building wondered why I didn’t call a timeout when we were down 10-0 and 17-5, but I wanted to teach our guys that they needed to work it out on the court without me calling a timeout,” said Grant head coach Dan George. “And they did. I’m proud of them. Hart is a very good team and well-coached. This was a good test for us.”
