It was quarterback day at the NFL combine.
Signal-callers were among the players to take the podiums in Indianapolis, along with wide receivers and running backs.
That means there was plenty of questions to be asked of some of the highest-profile players at this year’s event.
Here’s a sampling of what was said:
Alabama QB Jalen Milroe on former teammate Terrion Arnold: Terrion’s my best friend. He’s my guy to this day. He’s someone that throughout college we had a great relationship each and every day building, talking and the best thing that we had, we would be able to be vulnerable around each other and explain our thought process because it’s a social norm to be considered tough and not be able to express your thoughts. But that’s someone that I leaned on to be able to talk to and that’s my dog for life.
Texas WR Isaiah Bond on his 40-yard dash goals: “I’m going to break the record tomorrow, for sure. I anticipate running 4.20, or possibly if I’m feeling great, I might run 4.1.”
Minnesota QB Max Brosmer on going from high school in Georgia to New Hampshire to Minnesota: “I never thought I’d be playing cold -weather football when I grew up playing in 65, 70 degrees on Friday night. And I’m going to 10-degree games in New Hampshire and 0-degree games in Minnesota. I learned that cold weather football is true man’s football.”
Brosmer on Minnesota’s 2024 loss to Michigan: “After the Michigan game I think the unity was there, but proving to ourselves we could actually do it. I remember coach Fleck’s postgame speech after Michigan was the most incredible postgame speech I’ve ever heard in my life. The actual details I won’t get into, but the feeling you had after a loss was nothing I had ever been a part of. After that, we just hit the ground running.”
Alabama QB Jalen Milroe on if he regrets not opting out of bowl game vs. Michigan: “No, not necessarily. I started the season with my brothers, and I’m going to end the season with my brothers despite anything. Wins, losses are a part of the game, but I had no regrets from last year and no matter what, no matter if we won or lost, I would’ve had the same mindset to finish the season with my guys that I started it with.”
Ohio State QB Will Howard on how Michigan was able to have success against them: “I don’t know, man. They were a stout front and they did a good job up front, but we’re here to talk about the draft and the combine.”
Minnesota WR Daniel Jackson on the NFL Draft being in Green Bay: “How do I feel about Wisconsin? Haha. That’s an interesting question. I mean, Wisconsin, I love the rivalry. Had great moments going against the Wisconsin Badgers. But no, it’s gonna be fun seeing that in Green Bay.”
Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders on the critics that come with the spotlight: “You think I’m worried about what critics say or what people got to say. You know who my dad is? They hated on him too. So it’s almost normal. Without people hating, it’s not normal for us. So we like the adversity. We like everything that comes with the name. That’s why we are who we are.”
5-foot-9, 155-pound Oregon WR Tez Johnson: “We’re not bodybuilders. My size is something I know about and I’m aware of, but it’s not like I don’t have like my own chef, my own nutritionist. I take it very seriously to gain weight, it’s just that God blessed me with a slight frame and the speed and not able to get touched whenever I want.”
TCU WR Jack Bech after losing his brother in the New Orleans terrorist attack: “Yeah, just knowing my brother’s got me. I’m huge in my faith. I always keep God first, no matter the circumstance, no matter what’s going on. I believe he makes no mistakes and there are no coincidences in his realm. I feel like my brother, I know his wings are going to be on me from now until the end of time. It’s pushed me to new heights. My work ethic, even though I’ve worked hard my whole like and done a lot of things others are not willing to do, I feel like I’ve taken a whole new step in doing that. I know, like I said, he’ll be with me and have the best seat in the house from here on out.”
Tennessee WR Bru McCoy on which offensive set fits him the best: “I really think it is kind of plug-and-play for me. Wherever a team sees me fit, I think I’m adaptable to whatever sort of system I could get into. I think there’s been some level of concern, like you’re going from a bit of an unorthodox offense into a more pro-style offense, so what sort of transition would that be? And I think I’ve demonstrated my understanding of football on either offense or either level.”
Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart Well on his doubters that his game can’t translate to NFL: “I had a different offense coordinator. I have an elite coaching staff this year, a product coach judge who has won multiple Super Bowls, who’s also an NFL head coach. So I feel like development-wise, conceptually I’ve ran every concept, and I’ve had reps at it. They know what it looks like. Coach Kiff at one point was the youngest NFL head coach. I think that says something. Coach Weis, my offense coordinator, coached the NFL.”
Missouri WR Luther Burden III on who he models his game after: “Myself”
