The former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram’s wife, Shanieria hit back at a troll on social media which implied that the fast-bowling great was divorced.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), a popular account known for its memes and trolls shared a picture which talked about several cricketers who had been divorced. This meme also featured Akram, which triggered a response from his wife on the same platform.
She responded by saying, “You guys are definitely “out of context” and from what I can see you’re also out of correct and reliable information!”
Akram first got married to Huma Mufti in 1995 and the two had two sons from their 14-year-long marriage. However, Mufti passed away due to multiple organ failures in 2008 in Chennai.
Four years later, the former Pakistani cricketer had his second marriage to the Aussie-born Shaniera Thompson and the couple have a daughter who was born in 2014, with their marriage still going strong.
Akram was amongst the plethora of former cricketers that has been vocal about their criticisms of Pakistan cricket, following their disappointing performances in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. The side led by Mohammad Rizwan crashed out of the tournament despite being the hosts. The side suffered defeats in their games against New Zealand and India, which sealed their fate.
Now the hosts will play Bangladesh in their final group-stage fixture where they would look to give the home crowds something positive to watch after their horrendous display in the tournament so far.
Several Pakistan stars like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and others copped serious criticisms regarding their lack of performances which saw an embarrassing display despite Pakistan hosting their first ICC tournament since 1999.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have yet to announce the measures taken to ensure that the side’s cricketing skills get back up to speed. An earlier report suggested that the side would wait until the end of the tournament and look to make a fresh start in the new World Test Championship Cycle for 2025-27.
As far as the changes are concerned, nothing has been made official so far, but it is expected that the board could conduct a comprehensive review to see where the side has fallen short.
