After reports surfaced last week about filling Oregon football’s wide receivers coach vacancy, the team made Ross Douglas’ hire official Thursday in a press release.
Douglas, who most recently served in the same role at Syracuse, has coached for the NFL’s New England Patriots and had other college stints at Richmond and Rutgers.
Douglas will replace former receivers coach Junior Adams, who left to join the Dallas Cowboys in the same role earlier this month.
“It is an honor and privilege to join Dan Lanning and the football staff at the University of Oregon,” Douglas said in a statement. “This is a prestigious university with a great tradition of excellence within the athletic department. I am excited to give everything I have to our players and program on a daily basis so we can compete for championships.”
Partly under Douglas’ leadership, the Syracuse offense ranked No. 1 in the country in passing offense. The Orange led the FBS with 370 passing yards per game, vastly improved from the year prior, where the Orange ranked No. 116 in the country in passing offense.
Before his one year with Syracuse, Douglas served under NFL coaching legend Bill Belichick for three seasons and was the youngest position coaches in the NFL when he was hired to serve as the receivers coach in 2022.
A former defensive back at Michigan and Rutgers, Douglas started his coaching career as a defensive graduate assistant for the Scarlet Knights in 2018. Douglas earned his bachelor’s degree from Michigan in 2016 and his master’s at Rutgers in 2018. He is a native of Avon, Ohio.
