Anett Kontaveit is back in the news. Reason? She has embarked on her life’s special chapter. The Estonian player retired from the sport due to a degenerative back condition at 27. Now, a year after retirement, as she walks into a new phase of her life, she is being showered with love by her esteemed colleagues.
Kontaveit announced the birth of her son yesterday. She shared a picture of her newborn on Instagram holding his father’s finger. The picture also had Kontaveit’s hand visible on her baby’s head. While she kept her son’s teddy bear alongside, it was hard to tell who was cuter! “First week with our Leon Enzo Lepistu,” the caption read, as the former WTA star introduced her son to the world. Kontaveit had previously announced in May that she and her long-time boyfriend Brent Lepistu, an Estonian soccer player, were pregnant with their first child.

For Kontaveit, who retired only a year back, it is her life’s second innings. She has been impressive with her performances on the court in the past, but it’s now time for motherhood responsibilities. The WTA community is sending her a lot of positivity and the list begins with Tunisian Ons Jabeur whose adorable words echoed her happiness, as she wrote, “My cute little friend 🥰🥰🥰🥰❤️❤️.”
Kontaveit’s friendship with Jabeur goes back a long way. The Tunisian was there when Kontaveit played her final match in the Tallinn exhibition and even though Jabeur won the match, she was emotional about her friend bidding adieu to the sport. It wasn’t a surprise that she was the first one to congratulate Kontaveit on the birth of her son.
Then there was Shelby Rogers. “Precious 🥹,” she commented on Kontaveit’s Instagram post, showing her delight seeing the newborn’s face. While the duo played against each other on the court, they shared a cordial relationship, which was highlighted by Shelby’s emotional comment on the birth of her colleague’s baby.
