A collision between a car and a golf cart near The Breakers resort in Palm Beach sent one person to the hospital Monday afternoon.
Town police responded to the crash at the intersection of South County Road and Pine Walk Road just after 1 p.m.
The operator of the golf cart suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, Police Department spokesperson Capt. William Rothrock told the Daily News. The operator of the other vehicle — a small SUV — was not injured.
A crash investigation is underway, Rothrock said. South County Road reopened after a brief closure.
Monday’s accident is one of just a handful involving golf carts that have occurred in Palm Beach.
Most recently, a crash between a golf cart and a car near the Par 3 Golf Course in June 2021 left an 83-year-old man dead and a 77-year-old man seriously injured.
The driver of the car did not face criminal charges in the accident, though a lawsuit filed three months later accused him of failing to drive at a lawful speed, disregarding golf cart crossing warning signs and improperly passing another vehicle on the road, among other acts of negligence.
The Par 3 accident was the second in Palm Beach County that year in which someone in a golf cart was killed after a collision.
Frisler Moise, 67, of suburban Lake Worth Beach, died in April after he turned into the path of an oncoming vehicle outside the Woodfield Country Club west of Boca Raton, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.
The SUV hit the driver’s side of the golf cart, ejecting Moise, who then died, police said. No charges were filed in the case.
