A golf course in Pennsylvania — one which was previously recognized as being amongst the best in state — is undergoing a major renovation.
This renovation comes as part of a larger upgrade to the resort which the golf course is a part of.
Golfweek — which is a part of USA Today — reports how the Toftrees Resort in State College tapped architect Jim Nagle for this renovation.
Golf Business News continues to report how the course — which dates back to 1969 — has purchased by a local investment group a few years ago, and is currently managed by hospital company, Shaner Hotel Group.
“Toftrees was originally a semi-private club with a hotel attached — it had a resort feature, but it always left like a private club,” says Shaner Senior Vice President, George Wolfe, to Golf Business News. “There has always been a tie between the golf course and Penn State University, which is local.”
It was also deemed as one of the best golf courses in Pennsylvania by VisitPA: The site particularly noted its “smooth and tree-bordered fairways” as well as its “abundance of bunkers and uphill obstacles.”
“Today, golfers have higher ‘design IQs’ than in decades past,” Nagle said. “With the advent of social media and the many golf design-related podcast, golfers now demand more thoughtful engaging design: Toftrees can provide just that.”
Golf Business News states that the design work for the Toftrees Resort golf course renovation has already begun. The date on which construction will begin, however, has yet to be confirmed.
