SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Crooks know you’re in the middle of online Christmas shopping, and packages will soon be stacking up on your front porch. So it makes sense the Post Office text scam is making the rounds.
It’s not from USPS. It reads: Your shipment has been processed but is currently on hold due to incomplete address information. Please verify your address by following the link.
Crooks hope you’ll click on their bogus website and enter your name, address, and credit card information. Don’t take the bait.
“Just delete that text,” said Mark Inglett with USPS. “We don’t notify anyone by texting. We will come to your house and knock on your door, leave you a notice, things such as that.”
You can get tracking updates, but you sign up for those.
You can tell an inspector here.
While we are on the topic of shipping, know that there’s still plenty of time to find a good deal.
Green Monday is December 9.
“We tend to see a resurgence of sales,” said Samantha Gordon with Consumer Reports. “They’re not as big as Black Friday or Cyber Monday, but they’re up there. Free Shipping Day is December 14. When retailers offer free shipping, it’s guaranteed to get there on Christmas Eve. December 21 is the last push for sales. You’re going to see in-store deals especially.”
