With the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Vipers on a week-long scheduling break, the Houston Rockets recalled Cam Whitmore and Nate Williams on Saturday. RGV is Houston’s NBA G League affiliate organization.
With NBA playing time limited at the moment due to a relatively healthy roster, the Rockets sent Whitmore and Williams to the G League when RGV’s season began earlier this month.
But after winning by nearly 40 points on Friday, the Vipers won’t play again until next Friday, Nov. 22. Thus, it makes sense to bring Whitmore and Williams back to the Rockets for depth purposes during a period in which there won’t be a G League game for them to get repetitions in.
G League stats for Whitmore and Williams, who each play wing positions, are as follows:
Houston plays three games in four nights between Sunday and Wednesday, with all in different cities. As part of that, the Rockets have a road back-to-back in Chicago on Sunday and in Milwaukee on Monday.
That could make additional depth more important as the Rockets work to navigate a challenging portion of the schedule, from a logistics standpoint.
Houston (9-4) entered Saturday as one of the NBA’s hottest teams, having won four straight games, six of seven, and eight of its last 10, overall. The Rockets currently hold the No. 3 spot in the Western Conference standings.
