MUSCAT- Two-time champions Oman stunned Qatar 2-1 in a Group A match at the 26th Gulf Cup at the Jaber International Stadium in Kuwait on Tuesday.
Issam Al Sabhi scored a brace as Rasheed Jaber’s men bounced back from a 1-1 draw against Kuwait to boost their semi-final hopes with four points from two matches.
Qatar shocked Oman with a strike in the second minute of the match through Almoez Ali but Sabhi converted a penalty in the 20th minute to go into the interval 1-1. Soon after the resumption, Sabhi found the decisive goal of the match in the 52nd minute.
Both teams had more chances to score but Oman held firmly the lead to go top of the group with four points with UAE and Kuwait to play their second round game later in the night. Both UAE and Kuwait have one point each from their opening matches.
