Omaha native Trevor Gutschewski wins 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha native Trevor Gutschewski entered the U.S. Junior Amateur quarterfinals as the lowest ranked golfer (3,570) in the field.
He’s leaving Oakland Hills a champion.
Gutschewski captured the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship on Saturday, defeating Tyler Watts in the 36-hole final. With the win, the 17-year-old earned an exemption to the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont.
“I don’t even know,” he said of what the win means. “Probably hasn’t sunk in yet. I have to sit on it for a bit.”
Trevor, a Florida commit, is the son of PGA Tour veteran Scott Gutschewski, who was playing at the 3M Open in Minnesota. After missing the cut Friday, Scott made it to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan to watch his son’s victory.
“USGA must not have brought the best out of me, but apparently they do out of my kids,” Scott joked after the final.
Gutschewski etches his name alongside all-time golfing greats as a U.S. Junior Amateur champion, joining Tiger Woods (1991-93), Jordan Spieth (2009, 2011) and Scottie Scheffler (2013) among many others.
