Bryce Thompson scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Oklahoma State men’s basketball team to an 80-74 win over Miami in a Charleston Classic consolation game Friday afternoon in Charleston, S.C.
Thompson made 6-of-14 shots from the floor, surpassing 1,000 points for his career at OSU (4-1), which also got 15 points from Marchelus Avery.
Oklahoma State backup guard Arturo Dean, a Miami native, posted eight points and one steal. He led the nation in steals last season while playing for Florida International.
Miami (3-2) has lost two straight games in Charleston, failing to take a lead at any point. They will play on Sunday against either Nevada or VCU.
The Hurricanes on Friday were led by Nijel Pack, who had a game-high 20 points. Brandon Johnson had a double-double for Miami with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Matthew Cleveland scored 11 points and Lynn Kidd and Paul Djobet added 10 points apiece for Miami.
OSU will face the winner of the VCU-Nevada game at 2 p.m. CST Sunday in the third-place game.
The Sooners have started 4-0 in consecutive seasons and for the third time under head coach Porter Moser.
OU basketball defeated East Texas A&M 84-56 Thursday night at the Lloyd Noble Center but will be tested next week in the Bahamas.
Late in the first half, guard Duke Miles hit his defender with a stutter step, drove to the basket and scored an acrobatic under-the-basket layup.
Miles finished the first half with 14 points and shot 3 for 4 from 3. Miles finished the contest with a season-high 19 points on 7 for 13 shooting from the field.
It was always a matter of when not if when it came to Jeremiah Fears starting.
Fears, a true freshman, earned his first career start four games into his young career Thursday night against East Texas A&M and finished with 20 points on 7 for 10 shooting.
Four-star quarterback Kevin Sperry out of Guyer High School in Denton, Texas, has flipped his commitment from OU football to Florida State, he announced on social media on Thursday.
The move comes as the Sooners are in the midst of an offensive coordinator search 13 days from early signing day.
Sperry committed to OU on March 13, 2023, when he was recruited by former offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. Sperry transferred to Guyer from Carl Albert High School this past offseason.
The Sooners hold a commitment from four-star quarterback Jaden O’Neal in the 2026 class. O’Neal visited Colorado last weekend and is slated to visit OU for its game against Alabama on Saturday.
Sperry helped the Titans finish 14-0 and win an Oklahoma 5A championship in 2023.
Sperry’s news comes after five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi is reportedly set to visit Texas and Texas A&M.
