The Oklahoma Sooners extended their current winning streak to six games with a dominant performance on the road Thursday night. Oklahoma went into Gainesville and beat the Florida Gators 89 to 65 to move to 22-6 on the season and 10-5 in SEC play.
At the end of the first quarter, the Sooners led by just three at 22-19, but they put together a strong defensive effort in the second quarter to go into halftime up 12. 13 of Verhulst’s game-high 17 points came in that first half.
In the third quarter, the Gators stayed within seven for much of the frame before the Sooners began to pull away with a 14-6 run to end the quarter. In the fourth, it was more of the same. Oklahoma had too much firepower for Florida to keep up with and outscored the home team 25-16 over the final 10 minutes.
In addition to Verhulst’s 17 points, the Sooners had six players in double figures. Raegan Beers had 16 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Skylar Vann had 13 points, Sahara Williams and Liz Scott each had 11 points, and Zya Vann chipped in 10 off the bench.
Oklahoma shot 43.7% from the field and 33.3% from three. In the win, OU got away with only shooting 67.9% from the free throw line. Defensively, the Sooners held Florida to just 31.4% shooting and 28% from three.
Oklahoma will close the regular season on Sunday, March 2, at 3:30 p.m. when they take on the No. 20 Alabama Crimson Tide.
