CLEVELAND, Ohio — The 2024 OHSAA girls golf season has begun. Competitors from all over the cleveland.com seven-county coverage area in Northeast Ohio are trying to swing their way to the state tournament in October.
Last season saw Laurel senior Siena Maschke take home the Division II state crown. In Division I, Highland senior Isabella Goyette finished in a four-way tie for runner-up.
Who from Northeast Ohio will try to equal that success? It could be someone from this group, the 2024 Cleveland.com Preseason All-Stars:
Julia Gulla, Nordonia, senior
Gulla finished 18th at state as a sophomore, helping the Knights finish 11th in Division I as a team. Last season at the district tournament she finished one stroke away from a return trip. This spring and summer, in five matches (girls 16-19 age group), she placed no lower than fifth. She shot a season best 71 at Fox Den Golf Course.
Macey McGhee, Independence, senior
McGhee is one of the top players in Division II, after finishing 21st at state last season and helping the Blue Devils finish fifth as a team. Her two-day total of 172 at state was second-best for the Blue Devils,
Maureen O’Leary, Magnificat, senior
O’Leary finished tied for 13th with a two-day total of 150 at last season’s Division I state tournament, helping the Blue Streaks finish runner-up in the team race. In five events in the NOPGA this summer, the Miami University recruit had finishes of first, second and third. She was tied for first in the 18 Hole NOPGA Jr. Series at Pine Hill Golf Course.
Cammy Reed, Magnificat, senior
Reed finished ninth the Division state tournament last season, the top finisher for the runner-up Blue Streaks. At Mill Creek Golf Course (North) in the 18-hole NOPGA Jr. Series, she was first with a 5-over-par 75. She beat out teammates Maureen O’Leary (78) and sister Calli Reed (79).
Gracyn Vidovic, Aurora, senior
The senior finished tied for 19th at last season’s Division I tournament with a two-day total of 154. She was in the top five for the Aurora team that finished second in the Suburban League Tournament at Old Avalon.
Serena Wu, Solon, junior
Wu finished 19th at the Division I state tournament last season. She had an excellent spring and summer season, with three consecutive first-place finishes. She dominated the field of over 20 golfers in her 16-19 age group in the Northern Ohio PGA 2024 NOPGA Junior Tour – Chippewa. On the season, Wu had six first-place finishes and she was tied for first in another.
