ATHENS, Ga. – The Ohio women’s basketball team (2-8, 0-0 MAC) fell at Georgia (8-6, 0-0 SEC) 83-50 on Saturday, Dec. 28.
 
Senior Kennedi Watkins (Ballwin, Mo.) led the team with 15 points, finishing 7-for-14 from the field. Sophomore Bailey Tabeling (Seymour, Ind.) and senior Kate Dennis (Rockford, Ill.) added eight points each for the Bobcats.
 
Sophomore Asiah Baxter (Indianapolis, Ind.) grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Baxter, Tabeling and graduate student Aliah McWhorter (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded three assists each. Sophomore Emma Barnett (Mount Washington, Ky.) tallied a team-high three steals and Dennis finished with a team-high two blocks.
 
Ohio came out with a good level of intensity only trailed by six points halfway through the quarter. Despite Ohio’s hard work on defense, Georgia found a lot of success offensively in the last five minutes. After the first quarter, the Bobcats trailed the Bulldogs 21-8.
 
Georgia continued to lead Ohio, 38-19 after the second quarter of play. The Bobcats allowed the Bulldogs to grab too many offensive rebounds and earn second chance opportunities. Despite the score, the second quarter was closer than the first scoring wise with Ohio tallying 11 points and Georgia tallying 17 points.
 
Ohio saw more offensive success in the third quarter. The Bobcats outscored Georgia 13-6 in the first five minutes and trailed 44-32 with 5:08 to go in the quarter. Georgia’s switch to a high press challenged Ohio and forced the Bobcats to give up a bit too many turnovers. Georgia hit a stride offensively in the final few minutes and both teams finished the quarter with 19 points each. The Bobcats trailed the Bulldogs 57-38 heading into the final quarter of the game.
 
Georgia extended its lead for a significant scoring run and efficient shooting throughout the fourth quarter. Despite their efforts, the Bobcats could not catch up with the Bulldogs. Georgia went on to win the game 83-50.
 
The Bobcats will be back in action when they host Akron for their conference opener on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
