WEIRTON, W. Va. — Some of the best ballers from the tri-state area met in Weirton today to showcase their skills.

The Ohio Valley Hornets hosted their first annual Fall Ball All-Star Game at the Weirton Boys and Girls Club. Featuring 18 of the best girls’ basketball players from Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, the event showcased their talents through skill drills and two games. Players were also exposed to college coaches from around the area, including those from Franciscan and Bethany College. Girls’ head coach Paul Buffington says events like this help give members of his team an edge over the competition.

“There’s really not a whole lot of things going on to get the girls ready for their season,” said Ohio Valley Hornets Varsity Girls Head Coach Paul Buffington. “That was the idea of the fall league. And then we thought, ‘Well, you know what? Let’s do an all-star game and get them in front of some people.’ So, when they go back to their teams, now they’re ready to play. They’re a little bit ahead of everything plus it gets them exposure. Hopefully a couple of them will get some offers today.”

The Hornets will pick back up in the spring when they start their travel season.
