Ohio State football coach Ryan Day addresses Big Noon Kickoff games
In spite of fans complaints about noon games, Ohio State football coach Ryan Day says his team will play anytime, anywhere.
When Ohio State takes the field at Wrigley Field to face Northwestern on Saturday, it will be the first time in nearly two decades that the Buckeyes will be playing at a Major League Baseball ballpark.
The iconic ballpark, which opened in 1914 and is home to the Chicago Cubs, is the home field of Northwestern for two games this season, starting with the Buckeyes matchup. This is due to the demolition of their usual home, Ryan Field.
Northwestern is replacing the 98-year old venue with a new stadium set to open in 2026. While construction is taking place, the Wildcats are using Northwestern Medicine Field as their home venue, when not at Wrigley Field.
In 2005, the Buckeyes played its last of 11 games at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, the former home venue of the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota football.
The game against Northwestern will be the first time Ohio State plays at Wrigley, and the sixth different MLB ballpark the Buckeyes have played in. Other MLB venues the Buckeyes have appeared in are Cleveland Municipal Stadium, Jack Murphy Stadium, Anaheim Stadium and the Polo Grounds.
