COLUMBUS, Ohio — Twin brothers Devontae and Deontae Armstrong have gotten their black stripes removed, Ohio State football announced on Saturday.
The offensive linemen are wrapping up their freshmen campaigns with the Buckeyes. They’re products of St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio.
Devontae Armstrong was a four-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
He was the No. 18 player in the state and the nation’s No. 29 interior offensive lineman.
Deontae Armstrong was a four-star tackle in the same class. In the state, he was the No. 14 player while ranking No. 33 at his position nationally.
The black stripe tradition is one that dates back to 2012 when Urban Meyer served as Ohio State’s coach.
Each newcomer to the program had a black stripe added to their helmet. Once they prove they can put in the work required to be a Buckeye, the black stripe is removed.
A newcomer cannot play until they lose their black stripe.
