Ohio State AD Ross Bjork voices support for expanded College Football Playoff

Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork voiced support Wednesday for further expanding the College Football Playoff.

The playoff expanded from four teams to 12 this year, and the Buckeyes were the chief beneficiary. OSU was ranked sixth in the final ranking by the CFP committee – and slotted No. 8 in the bracket – before winning four games to win the national championship.

Now there is speculation that the playoff will expand again, with 2026 the most likely date for expansion.

“We’re just at a time where you have to put everything on the table to really capitalize on the moment in college athletes,” Bjork said at Ohio Stadium to discuss the Blue Jackets’ Stadium Series hockey game against Detroit on March 1. “If we’re sharing revenue with the athletes, which is the right thing to do, how do we produce more content? How do we have more high-level matchups?

“Clearly, the viewership and the CFP people want to watch these games and they want high-level matchups, so I think we owe it to the game. We owe it to our athletes to say, ‘Can we have more content?’ And more content means more games. So is that 14 (teams)? Is that 16? I don’t know what the right number is.

“I think there’s a lot of different models that we’ve studied. Clearly, the Big Ten and the SEC were at the forefront. We had the biggest brands. But we also need to also protect the game of college football to make sure that it’s accessible for as many people that can really live in this world as possible. So I’m for expansion again.”
