Week 3 of the 2024 Ohio high school football season is here, and we’re covering rematches of two games that we also covered last year.
Dave Purpura is in Pickerington, where Central hosts North in a battle for community bragging rights. North won 39-34 last year.
Frank DiRenna is in Powell, where unbeaten Olentangy Liberty hosts Gahanna Lincoln. Gahanna won last season’s matchup 46-28.
Several games started 15 to 30 minutes late because of storms.
At DeSales, Africentric quarterback Joshua Smith left the game with an injury after being brought down with a horse-collar tackle early in the second quarterback. Africentric leads DeSales 8-7 with 9 minutes left in the first half.
Week 3 got underway Thursday night with three central Ohio teams – all from the City League – in action. East beat Toledo Scott 32-0, West defeated Millersport 47-12 and South fell to Dayton Belmont 18-17.

Entering play Friday, 23 central Ohio teams were undefeated. One of them was Liberty, which opened the scoring against Gahanna on Grayson Davis’ 1-yard touchdown run with 4:10 left in first quarter. Cameron Cole’s interception in Gahanna territory helped set up the TD.
Liberty, which lost its first four games last year on the way to a 4-8 finish, can move to 3-0 with a win Friday. The Patriots haven’t started 3-0 since 2019, when they won their first eight games in a 10-2 season.
The battle of Pickerington features a matchup of teams coming off high-scoring performances in Week 2. Central defeated Huber Heights Wayne 45-40 and North beat Grandville (Michigan) 53-51 on a Brandon Fowler 32-yard field goal as time expired.
After a 30-minute weather delay, North needed only two plays to strike first. On a draw play, Ohio University commit Michael Taylor bolted 43 yards down the center of the field for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead with 9:39 left in the first.
Here is the central Ohio schedule for Week 3.
