Oaklawn is
calling off a day of races because of winter weather, the fourth card it has had to move this month. This time it meant the postponement
of the 10-race Martin Luther King Day card including the $145,000 Byerly Turk
Overnight Stakes on Monday.
“With the forecasted freezing temps on Monday, Jan. 20, the
race card originally scheduled for that day has been rescheduled to Thursday,
Jan. 23,” the Oaklawn racing office said in a Friday afternoon text message to
horsemen.

Weather also forced Oaklawn to call off races last Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. This week the Friday card went ahead as scheduled, and
Saturday and Sunday races are still expected to go forward.
The National Weather Service forecast a sunny, 46-degree day
Saturday and a breezy, 32-degree afternoon Sunday. That will be followed by a
14-degree Sunday night and a temperature no higher than 30 on Monday.
The card rescheduled for Thursday will begin a racing week that includes the Grade 3, $1 million Southwest Stakes on Saturday, a Kentucky Derby 2025 points prep.
