LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — Get ready to place some bets as Oaklawn’s horse races kick off the 2024-2025 season on Friday.

Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas is getting ready for the season with two of his standout horses, Just Steel and Lemon Muffin.

Just Steel, who had a notable run in Oaklawn’s Kentucky Derby qualifying races last season, is back in training after recovering from a leg fracture sustained during the Preakness Stakes. The horse, sired by 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify, boasts a record of 2-4-1 from 13 starts and earnings of $784,545.

Lemon Muffin, who broke her maiden in the Honeybee Stakes at Oaklawn, is also showing promise. Despite a seven-race winless streak, Lukas said her form is improving after recent strong finishes at Churchill Downs.

The upcoming Oaklawn meeting will feature a record 57 stakes races, beginning with the Advent Stakes for 2-year-olds on Friday, December 6.
