Jannik Sinner is currently in Montreal to return to the courts in the Canadian Open. In the pre-tournament press conference, he was asked what he thought about the gold-medal match and Djokovic’s emotional reaction after the victory. In reply, Sinner revealed that he missed the initial few minutes of the match due to his practice sessions, but he stated that he watched the whole second set. He claimed it was a “very high-level match.”

Then, when the Italian was asked about whether he understands the feelings that the Serb went through after the victory, Sinner replied, “Of course I understand [his reaction], but I think he understands it more than anyone else.”  Sinner further went on to add, “He tried so hard to get this medal, which was the last thing he needed to accomplish. He knew this in his mind. He was close a couple of times, making bronze or fourth a couple of times. This year was his year, and it was just a very nice scene, to see how much this means to him.” So, according to the Italian tennis star, no one wanted this gold medal as badly as Novak Djokovic!

Although he won the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the ‘yellow metal‘ is always the most desired! The 37-year-old tennis star has now become only the fifth player to complete the Career Golden Slam.

He has now won every major tournament in the tennis world. After completing this historic feat, Djokovic says he is happy to get this “missing piece in the puzzle.” He revealed that he had put his heart, soul, and everything to win gold for his nation this time. Several tennis stars came out in numbers to congratulate the Serb on his recent triumph. However, the most eye-catching among them all was the ‘Serbinator’ getting praised by the ‘King of Clay’! Rafael Nadal shared a congratulatory message on his Instagram stories. The Spaniard wrote, “Congrats Novak on completing the (Career) Golden Slam and being able to achieve what you wanted. Well done.” His reactions after the win and then running towards the stand to hug his daughter and other family members while shedding tears of joy tell us how much this victory meant to him.

Even American tennis legends came out in numbers to praise Djokovic’s performance in the finals. Martina Navratilova wrote, “Unbelievable effort from @DjokerNole to win the Olympics now- at his age and knee surgery to boot- truly phenomenal!!! He fully deserves the gold.” Her close friend, Chris Evert, spoke along the same lines, and in fact, she was a bit amazed to see Djokovic’s patriotism. Evert believes, “His GOAT status is cemented.“

Andy Roddick believes he’s quite lucky to witness this moment, and he later also went on to hail the Serb’s willpower even at this age. Brad Gilbert and Mardy Fish were the other big names of American tennis who shared a few words of acknowledgment for the Serbian.
