Hands trembled, and teardrops ran down his cheeks when he dropped down to his knees on the Parisian clay. Novak Djokovic‘s emotional reaction after securing his winning point against Carlos Alcaraz in the finals of the Paris Olympics is a vivid memory. He had to wait for almost 16 years to witness this day. What an achievement! Victory truly belongs to the most tenacious. Several tennis stars congratulated him after this emphatic triumph, and here’s what the current world number said about Djokovic’s emotional outburst after the victory.
Jannik Sinner is currently in Montreal to return to the courts in the Canadian Open. In the pre-tournament press conference, he was asked what he thought about the gold-medal match and Djokovic’s emotional reaction after the victory. In reply, Sinner revealed that he missed the initial few minutes of the match due to his practice sessions, but he stated that he watched the whole second set. He claimed it was a “very high-level match.”
Then, when the Italian was asked about whether he understands the feelings that the Serb went through after the victory, Sinner replied, “Of course I understand [his reaction], but I think he understands it more than anyone else.” Sinner further went on to add, “He tried so hard to get this medal, which was the last thing he needed to accomplish. He knew this in his mind. He was close a couple of times, making bronze or fourth a couple of times. This year was his year, and it was just a very nice scene, to see how much this means to him.” So, according to the Italian tennis star, no one wanted this gold medal as badly as Novak Djokovic!
