There isn’t a single thing in professional tennis left for Novak Djokovic left to tick off.
All four Grand Slams? Check. Olympic gold medal? Check. ATP Finals? Check. World number one? Check. Djokovic has been there, done the lot and worn the t-shirt.
At 37-years-old, the Serbian player is still as hungry as ever, with Djokovic appointing Andy Murray as his new coach for the Australian Open.
It’s been confirmed now which tournament the two will start working together at and the fire still burns strong it appears inside Djokovic.
Although the 2024 season didn’t see him add a 25th Grand Slam title, he did manage to finally claim Olympic gold and he’s been discussing just how much that meant to him.
The legendary player is still competing for Grand Slam titles in his late thirties and that in itself is pretty remarkable.
It’s hard to rule him out of winning the big ones in 2024 as well and it’s extremely exciting to see how he performs with Murray working things out from his box.
After a steady 2024, Djokovic has been discussing whether or not he prefers playing in the Grand Slam events or at the Olympics.
Speaking to Asics Argentina on Instagram, Djokovic said: “Well this year, the Olympics! No, I think that after six years, when I won the Olympics for the first time in my life. That is the highlight of my career.”
When asked if he preferred five or three-set matches, he delivered a resounding one-word verdict of, ‘Three!’
It’s easy to make too much of Djokovic not winning a major title in 2024 but it’s important to provide context.
For pretty much the first time in his career, he suffered a bad injury and even with a knee support he was able to reach the final of Wimbledon.
Djokovic can take a lot of heart from 2024 still and the way he carried himself with his injured knee shows that he’s still got what it takes to win the big ones.
With Murray in his corner and a desire to claim a 25th Grand Slam title in his heart, Djokovic will once again be a formidable opponent in 2025.
