After losing to Matteo Berrettini at the Qatar Open, Novak Djokovic announced that he will continue to work with Andy Murray “indefinitely.”
The Scot had coached the Serb at the Australian Open — where Djokovic retired from his semifinal with Alexander Zverev with a hamstring tear – and then announced they would “cool off” before deciding the next phase of their partnership. They recently announced they would continue at least through Wimbledon.
“I expressed my desire to continue the collaboration with him so I am really glad he did accept,” Djokovic, 37, told the ATP Tour’s in-house media channel after falling to Berrettini, 7-6(4), 6-2.
“It’s indefinite in terms of how long we are going to work together but we agreed we are going to work most likely in the [United] States and then some clay-court tournaments and see how it goes after that.”
Murray, a three-time major champion who retired last August, became Djokovic’s coach in late November.
“It was exciting for the whole tennis world and also for us to be in different roles together on the same side of the net,” Djokovic added.
“He has a unique perspective on my game – he has played me, he has played all the current best players in the world in my opponents.”
Djokovic remain tied with Margaret Court at 24 Grand Slam titles and will seek to break the tie at Roland Garros beginning May 25.
