Back when the NFL schedule first dropped, I think a lot of people surrounding the Detroit Lions let out a collective groan. Early bye weeks, especially for those with championship aspirations like the Lions, are typically not looked at as a positive thing. However, after a 3-1 start to the season, the Lions were a little banged up.
Players like All-Pro center Frank Ragnow and star safety Brian Branch were both nursing injuries that caused them to sit out of the Week 4 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night. Others were dinged up as well, so even most would have preferred a bye week later in the season, nobody was mad about the time off. Even coach Dan Campbell enjoys his time away from the game.
“I love the experience of the theater,” said Campbell to WXYZ’s Brad Galli during an interview from early in September. “As much access as you have at home, I still love being able to go in and get some popcorn, get your Coke, recline the seat.”
Hopefully Campbell and the rest of the Lions coaches, players, and staff were able to catch a movie and get their relaxation in. Now it’s time to get back to work for the next several months as they prep for their Week 5 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.
You can catch the entire interview with Galli and Campbell below.
INTERVIEW: Dan Campbell is embarking on his fourth year as head coach of the Lions.
His great gift of public speaking? He recalls the moment from high school he first gave a speech to his team. He also looked at the Lions’ young core and shared why he loves going to the movies. pic.twitter.com/vsgoueIndv
