Mack Brown’s final press conference as UNC football coach
Following UNC football’s loss to N.C. State, Mack Brown gave his final thoughts on his time with the Tar Heels, his firing and what’s next.
Welcome to Chapel Hill, Bill Belichick.
The hiring of the six-time Super Bowl NFL coach was reported by Ian Rapoport on Wednesday. Belichick, 72, has been in negotiations with North Carolina following the coach position opening after the firing of longtime coach Mack Brown.
Belichick has never coached at the college level but has ties to the Tar Heel State, as his dad ― Steve ― served as an assistant coach for UNC football for three seasons. With NIL and the transfer portal taking hold of college football, Belichick talked about how his fit at the college level could be beneficial on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday.
“Let me put this in capital letters, if, ‘I.F.’ I was in a college program, that college program would be a pipeline to the NFL for players that had ability to play in the NFL,” Belichick said. “It would be a professional program: training, nutrition, scheme, coaching, techniques, that would transfer to the NFL. It will be an NFL program at a college level.”
Belichick and the New England Patriots parted ways in January following a 24-year stint with the franchise. Belichick interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons earlier this year, but Raheem Morris got the job over him.
Here’s a look at social media reactions to Belichick’s hiring at UNC:
