Senior Tied For 1st Place Through 18 Holes
PALOS VERDES – Playing its first round of the new year Sunday at Palos Verdes Golf Club, the California women’s golf team got out to a strong start to its 2025 spring slate, securing a 1-over-par 285 team score led by senior Kaylyn Noh’s 5-under 66.
Competing in an 16-team field that includes six of the nation’s top-8 ranked teams, the Golden Bears ended the day in fifth place and just three strokes out of first place. Noh ended the day in a two-way tie for first place individually, becoming the first golfer in program history to record three rounds of 67 or lower as a Bear.
Noh was flawless through her first eight holes of the day, ending the front nine on holes 10 through 18 at 3-under. After picking up her only two bogeys on holes 1 and 2, Noh closed the round out on fire, stringing together four consecutive birdies on holes 5 through 8. Her seven birdies are tied for the most in the tournament.
Noh is the fourth Bear ever to finish a round at 66 or lower. It was the third time over the past two seasons that she came up one stroke shy of Cal’s 18-hole program record (-6), tying sophomore Constance Fouillet and Adora Liu for the Bears’ best round of 2024-25.
Competing on her birthday, Marie-Agnes Fischer also placed in the top 20 in round one, carding a 1-over 72. The freshman was steady throughout the day, picking up her lone birdie on hole 12 and posting the second-most pars (15) in the field.
Senior Jieming Yang ended the day in 26th place at 2-over 73 and Fouillet finished one stroke behind her at 3-over 74.
The Bears will tee off round two Monday morning on hole 1 at 10:12 a.m. PT.
