NEW DELHI: Tilak Varma delivered a stellar performance, guiding India to a thrilling win over England in the second T20I on Saturday with an unbeaten 72 off 55 balls.
Varma’s third T20 half-century came in a critical situation as India recovered from 78/5 in the 10th over to chase down the 166-run target with four balls to spare. His composed innings ensured India reached 166/8, successfully overhauling England’s total of 165/9, and secured a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
Following his match-winning effort, Tilak expressed his pride on social media, writing, “No better feeling than playing for my country.”
Varma was adjudged Player of the Match.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav also lauded Varma for his match-winning knock.
“Very happy with the way Tilak batted, good to see someone like him taking responsibility. Ravi Bishnoi has been putting the hard work in the nets. He wants to contribute with the bat.” Suryakumar said in the post-match presentation.
India opted to bowl first, with both teams making changes. India brought in Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar, replacing the injured Nitish Reddy and Rinku Singh.
The third T20I is scheduled for Tuesday at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, where India will look to clinch the series.
