WHAT TO KNOW
• The 21st-ranked Babson men’s golf team travels to the Atlanta suburb of Douglasville, Ga., to compete in the 54-hole West Pines Collegiate beginning on Monday morning.
• The Beavers are competing in the event, which is hosted by Oglethorpe, for the sixth time since 2018.
• The 19 teams in this year’s field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes in Tuesday’s final round.
2023 WEST PINES COLLEGIATE HIGHLIGHTS
• Sean Fitzgerald ’23 M’24 followed up an opening round 70 with a 3-under 68 to tie for third place at 4-under as Babson finished second at the West Pines Collegite on October 2-3, 2023.
• Juniors Shane Quinn (73-75) and Tomas Amaya (77-71) tied for 22nd at 6-over, while senior John Baldwin (75-78) and sophomore Evan Eichenlaub (74-79) tied for 42nd position at 11-over for the Green and White.
• The Beavers shot 292-292 to post a 36-hole total of 16-over 584 to come in second behind Oglethorpe, which shot 282-279 to finish at 7-under.
ABOUT THE BEAVERS
• No. 21 Babson is coming off a tie for seventh place at the Williams Invitational back on September 22.
• Eichenlaub shot 72-73 to tie for second with a 36-hole total of 3-over 145 as the Beavers posted rounds of 307-303 to the weekend with a 42-over total of 610 that was 20 strokes behind tournament champion Gustavus Adolphus.
• Eichenlaub owns a pair of top-five finishes and is first on the team with a 72.75 stroke average in two events, while first-year Aman Vantipalli owns one top-15 finish and a 77.00 average in four rounds this fall.
• Amaya has a 76.50 stroke average in two starts and sophomore Jack Berry (77.00) and Baldwin (77.25) both tied for 27th at the Duke Nelson Invitational back on September 14-15.
SUCCESS IN THE PEACH STATE
• In five previous trips to Georgia for the West Pines Collegiate (previously the Royal Lakes-Oglethorpe Invitational), the Beavers own two wins and four top-four finishes.
• Babson tied for first with Greensboro in 2018 and posted a 12-shot victory in 2021 in addition to coming in fourth in 2019.
ABOUT THE FIELD
• The Beavers are one of four nationally-ranked teams set to tee it up at West Pines GC along with No. 4 Oglethorpe, No. 8 Lynchburg and 24th-ranked Piedmont.
• Additionally, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Berry, Greensboro and Transylvania were all receiving votes in the September 20 Bushnell Golfweek Coaches poll.
BEAVER BITES
• The West Pines Collegiate will serve as a homecoming for Vantipalli, who hails from Alpharetta, Ga., which is less than an hour from West Pines GC.
• Going back to the end of last season, Eichenlaub has gone T5-T5-T2 in his last three tournaments and has a 73.14 stroke average in seven rounds during this stretch.
