Zverev – Rublev: 11.11.2024 20:30 CEST
H2H: 6-4
Alexander Zverev has won five straight matches. Last week in Paris, Alexander won the Masters 1000 title, winning against Ugo Humbert in the final, in straight sets. Sascha was dominant throughout the whole tournament, playing his best tennis. This was also his first hard-court title of the season. Zverev started this season very well, reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open. However, he failed there against Medvedev, after being 2-0 up. Once again, Sascha crumbled under pressure when it was most important. Zverev was consistent throughout the whole season, which granted him a top-2 status in the rankings. However, he still has not achieved his biggest goal, which is winning the Grand Slam title. His biggest chance was in the French Open, where he finished as a runner-up, losing against Alcaraz in the final. Sascha was 2-1 up, and was playing really well. However, Zverev crumbled once again under pressure, and lost the fourth and fifth sets 1-6 2-6. Last year in the ATP Finals, Sascha underperformed in Group B with Rublev, Medvedev and Alcaraz. He ended up being third in the group with the exact same number of points as Medvedev and Alcaraz as well. Sascha had his biggest result here in 2021, when he ended up winning the title, winning against Medvedev in the final.
Andrey Rublev has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Metz, Rublev withdrew from his quarterfinal encounter against Moutet. After Djokovic withdrew from the ATP Finals, Rublev took his spot, and eventually withdrew from his quarterfinal match, apparently because of an abdominal injury. We believe that Andrey just wanted to have some rest, and to prepare for the ATP Finals in Turin. This has been a roller-coaster type of season for the young Russian, who has struggled emotionally on the court throughout the whole season. Andrey started this season well, winning the title in Hong Kong at the beginning of the season. After that, Rublev reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, where he fought a battle against Jannik Sinner. The Russian also finished as the runner-up in Montreal, Where he was upset by Popyrin in the final. Other than that, Rublev has not had any success on the hard courts this season. His biggest title of the season was in Madrid, earlier this season. Andrey won the title, winning against Auger-Aliassime in the final. Last year in Turin, Rublev was the worst player in the tournament, not winning a single set throughout the whole tournament.
According to the bookies, Zverev is the favorite in this matchup, and we agree with that. The German has been a way better indoor hard-court player than Rublev. Sascha is one of the best players in the world right now, and he has already had a decent amount of success in the ATP Finals. We believe that he will dominate in this match, and win easily.
That being said, Zverev winning in straight sets is a value bet.
