Catch up with all the latest results and updates from the British players competing at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin from 10-17 November.
Britain’s Henry Patten and doubles partner Harri Heliovaara got their Nitto ATP Finals campaign off to the perfect start – defeating the world No.1s in their first match of the Mike Bryan group.
Wimbledon champions Patten and Heliovaara beat Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 7-6(2), 6-4 during the evening session in Turin.
Patten is hoping to become only the third British player to lift an ATP Finals title after Andy Murray (2016) and Joe Salisbury (2022 & 2023).
In a tense opening set both teams saw break point opportunities come and go but neither side could find the wrestle momentum in their favour.
Patten and Heliovaara kept their composure in the big moments and raced out to a 6-2 lead in the tie-break, before the Finnish star punched away a volley off the Brit’s serve to take the set.
The duo lost to Granollers and Zeballos on their previous meeting in Rome this year, but this time the Wimbledon champions proved too strong for the top-ranked ATP doubles team.
On their first break point of the second set, Heliovaara found a pinpoint return to give them the initial advantage. From there they showed little signs of wavering – dropping just five points on serve throughout the set to see out the win in an hour and 30 minutes.
Patten and Heliovaara still have to play Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson – who won their first match earlier in the day – as well as Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic.
