Kyrgios will compete in the Brisbane International before resuming his Grand Slam career at Melbourne Park.

He is looking forward to playing in front of his home fans again and aims to use that to his advantage, especially if he plays the World number one.

Nick Kyrgios is looking forward to playing again after playing just one competitive singles match since the 2022 US Open. The Australian suffered serious wrist injury which required surgery and he also experienced problems with his knee.

There were concerns he may not play again, but Kyrgios has overcome the odds and is ready to step back onto the ATP Tour. He already has one eye on the Australian Open and has hush sights on facing one player, the defending champion Jannik Sinner.

The former World number 13 has had plenty to say about the Italian since it was announced Sinner tested positive for banned substance clostebol.

Now he wants to face him on court and intends to use an interesting tactic to help him gain the upper hand should they face off at Melbourne Park.

“A part of me thinks why am I going to go out there and put myself in the pressure cooker of playing again. You have so many eyes on you,” Kyrgios told the Nothing Major podcast.

“Especially with me, I feel like everyone is just waiting for that moment. I am going to mess up or do something crazy and it’s going to explode.

“So I have thought about why I want to put myself back out there but I feel like I have got a lot more. Let’s be honest I just want to go out there and I really want to play Sinner. I thought about this [the game plan].

“If I played him in the Australian Open I would just get every single person in the crowd to get on him. I would just turn it into an absolute riot. All respect would go out the window and I would just do anything to win.

Kyrgios has been one of the most vocal players about Sinner’s two failed drug tests, having made several controversial comments on social media.

He has since claimed the pair do not like each other, but a showdown at Melbourne Park would be good for tennis. “I feel like why we love sport is because you have to have contrast in personalities,” he added.

“If I draw Sinner in the Australian Open third round everyone will watch because it’s contrasting personalities, we don’t like each other and I think it’s healthy in sport.”

Back in August, Sinner issued a response to Kyrgios’ strong words about him. “I don’t know. I don’t want to respond to what he said,” he answered.

“Everyone is free to say everything. It’s ok. If that is the case, let’s see. It’s gonna be different for sure (laughing). I don’t know what to say.

“Maybe I say something now and then the reaction will be something else. I’m always quite relaxed. I’m someone who forgets things quite fast. Everyone is free to say everything. It is what it is.”

Kyrgios has planned Sinner on just one occasion, and that came back in 2022. The pair played in the round of 16 at the Miami Open, with Sinner claiming a 7-6(3) 6-3 victory.

Before their clash at Florida’s Hard Rock Stadium, Kyrgios and Sinner were due to play at the previous tournament in Indian Wells, but Sinner withdrew and Kyrgios was given a walkover into the next round where he played Rafael Nadal.
