Nick Kyrgios shares his view of the fans at the Indian Wells Masters.
The 29-year-old has not played since the Australian Open but he is in California ready to play the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season.
The former Wimbledon runner-up has not played in the Californian desert since 2022, when he reached the quarter-finals.
Nick Kyrgios is now aiming to make an impression in 2025 and remind everyone why he is one of the most dangerous players in tennis.
The fans at the Indian Wells Masters are excited to welcome the world’s best players for two weeks of thrilling action.
This tournament is a favourite among players and fans and is widely regarded as the ‘fifth Grand Slam’.
This is one of the reasons why Kyrgios is delighted to be back at Indian Wells after suffering serious wrist and knee injuries, and Kyrgios’ wrist flared up during a practice session this week.
He is not taking his time there for granted and praised those who flock through the Indian Wells Tennis garden’s gates to watch the matches.
“This is always a special time of the year for me. Indian Wells and Miami, I have had some great results at both of these tournaments and always seem to play some pretty high level tennis in the States,” Kyrgios told Tennis TV.
“Can’t take any of these tournaments for granted anymore, these are the best tournaments we have and I don’t know how many times I’m going to be at these events competing against some of the best players in the world.
“It’s surreal, every time you come here and you really take in how good these stadiums are, how good the courts are, and the fans are amazing here, I think some of the best fans in the world, so it’s definitely up there with one of the best tournaments for sure.”
Kyrgios is set to play his next match against the dangerous Botic van de Zandschulp at Indian Wells.
The Dutchman successfully qualified for the tournament after claiming wins against Lukáš Klein and Matteo Gigante.
Van de Zandschulp has not enjoyed the best start to the season, with his best result being a last 16 appearance at the Qatar Open.
Kyrgios has yet to play Van de Zandschulp on tour, but it certainly has the ingredients to be an explosive and competitive match.
