Nick Kyrgios has taken the tennis world by storm following his much-impending comeback announcement to the tour. The controversial star is gearing up to mount his attack at the Brisbane International, where he will hope to capture glory in the presence of his home crowd. Seeing as contestants are jetting to the event ahead of the 2025 season’s commencement, Kyrgios found it best to partner with a fellow player and a good friend for a training session in Brisbane. To much excitement, it seemed like a session full of laughter and silly jokes.

The Aussie hardly stepped away from the sport despite being unable to participate since his last recorded tour-level attendance at the Stuttgart Open in June 2023. He had been majorly sidelined after a plethora of career-threatening injuries rendered him unable to compete professionally, however, that hardly stopped him from pursuing other ventures. In the past months, Kyrgios took up several commentatory gigs, all the while maintaining significant traction on social media.

He took potshots at players embroiled in controversies but also helped some in dire need of his assistance. American Frances Tiafoe was one of those personalities. Both players have strengthened their bond over years and when Kyrgios couldn’t make good on his commitments at the 2023 Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Los Angeles due to physical restraints, he did a solid for his good pal Tiafoe. The duo elected to join forces for a surprise coaching partnership after the American pro’s longtime coach Wayne Ferreira couldn’t make it.

With the Aussie nearing his opening act on the Brisbane International grounds, the pair teamed up yet again, but, only this time, the episode was purely for training purposes. Subsequently, Kyrgios took to his official Instagram handle and posted a clip showcasing the duo having a blast on the court. By the looks of it, both players were giggling over lighthearted conversations, which ironically, the Aussie was unable to recall later. “What were we talking about though,” read the post’s caption.

Kyrgios had more up his sleeve when he confirmed his return to competitive tennis. The Aussie player announced teaming up with his ‘bromance’ other half in Brisbane.

With fans excited for the highly-anticipated thriller, Kyrgios opened up about his thoughts on the partnership after landing in Brisbane.

When asked about his upcoming on-court alliance with the Serb, the 29-year-old hilariously responded: “Of course he is, yeah. I mean, everyone thinks it’s a pleasure playing with him it’s actually a pleasure playing with me let’s be real. Yeah, but he’s…. nah, look, you know, I think we wanted to play one time at least before either his career ends or mine finishes as well so, to finally do it on my home soil where, you know, I think for the fans whenever you get a team-up like this, it’s important that the fans get that because that’s what tennis is about.”

Regarded as one of tennis’s biggest serves, Kyrgios will ironically face another big server for his singles opening round act in Brisbane. He will lock horns with Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on Monday, December 30.
