Nick Kyrgios is lacing up for his hotly anticipated return to the ATP Tour in 2025.
The former Wimbledon finalist has expressed his determination to silence critics by claiming his first Grand Slam title after making his long-awaited return.
Having played just one ATP Tour singles match in two years, the 29-year-old has endured a string of setbacks, including injuries to his knee, foot, and wrist.
While Nick Kyrgios confirmed his plans for a hometown comeback this January, he also shared his disappointment over Rafael Nadal’s retirement, lamenting the missed opportunity for a final showdown.
Reflecting on his recovery recently, Kyrgios revealed that his surgeon had nearly declared his career over, but he has since rebounded and will make his return at the Brisbane event early next year.
The Australian, no stranger to a bit of on-court drama, has shared exactly who he wants to face upon his imminent comeback.
As he re-enters a sport undergoing a generational shift, Kyrgios has reflected on the transition away from the dominance of legends like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, with Novak Djokovic now in the twilight of his career.
The Australian is acutely aware of the rising stars staking their claim, including the two players who scooped up all the majors in 2024 – Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
When asked who he’s most eager to face, Kyrgios shared his thoughts: “I have a couple of answers there. The tennis world right now is definitely the changing of the guard. We understand that Rafa and Fed are not there any more and you could comfortably say it’s the back end of Novak’s career now.
“It’s open but you have the likes of Alcaraz, Holger Rune, Jannik Sinner. These guys that are vying for that next mantle.
“I would love to play Jannik Sinner at some stage. Hopefully not my first match back! I doubt he will play Brisbane. But that is probably the one which would be circled on my calendar,” he admitted.
And to his spicy Wimbledon affair in 2022 against Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, Kyrgios added: “And it’s always fun playing Tsitsipas. I think we all know that is a very healthy one for the tennis world.”
The Australian is gearing up for a fiery return to the tennis scene in 2025, with no signs of toning down his infamous on-court antics.
Known for his somewhat polarizing behavior, the Australian is eager to grab headlines and infuse the sport with his unique brand of chaos.
Kyrgios has been vocal online about his disdain for Sinner, frequently airing his belief that the Italian shouldn’t be competing due to ongoing doping allegations.
Regardless of that outcome and whether you love him or loathe him, Kyrgios is set to ensure that his 2025 campaign is anything but dull.
