NH high school golf: Seacoast duo earns individual Division II honors

PORTSMOUTH – While several Seacoast golfers earned Division II all-state honors this fall, Portsmouth High School sophomore Grey Gagnon was named Player of the Year, and Winnacunnet’s Pat Snow was named Coach of the Year.

Division I does not do all-state selections.

This is the first Player of the Year to come out of Portsmouth High School in Kyle Harrison’s 15 years as the program’s head coach.

“He is one of the steadiest golfers I have had in 20-plus years coaching golf in Massachusetts and New Hampshire,” Harrison said. “His ability to manage his emotions and remain level-headed is impressive.”

Harrison was medalist in seven of his 10 matches this season, and later won the Division II individual state championship.

Winnacunnet’s Snow wins Coach of the Year

This is the first time that Snow has been named Division II Coach of the Year.

“As much as I am honored, all the credit goes to the players on my team,” Snow said. “Most of these players I’ve had the pleasure of coaching three-plus years on varsity. They have all worked incredibly hard to improve on their game and they deserve all the credit. Very fortunate to have a great group of kids who had an exceptional year.”

Gagnon and teammate Turner Leduc were named to the first-team, as was Winnacunnet’s Jimmy Schouller and Chris Berry, Oyster River’s Jackson Follis and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Ryan Allard.

“(Leduc) has been a great leader with a fantastic attitude, and his game has improved tremendously from his freshman year,” Harrison said. “He has all the shots, and he has become one of our most consistent performers.”

Snow said Schouller and Berry both getting first-team honors is a testament to their hard work over the past four years.

“They put a ton of time in outside of what we do as a team,” Snow said. “Both are looking to play at the (college) level. So happy they were voted in by coaches across the division. Very deserving.”

Winnacunnet’s Greyson Belliveau was a second-team selection, as was Oyster River’s Teagan Nadeau and Finn Perry.

Winnacunnet’s Alex Santora, Elliott Brinser, and Brayden Emery were all honorable mention selections, as was the STA duo of Cooper Coate and Joe Mollica.
