The NFL is a wonderfully entertaining place. Any team can win any game at any time. That also makes it so hard to rank the 32 teams that compete on a weekly basis.
Right now, two teams are clearly above everybody else. After that, there are about four or five teams ready to challenge and four or five teams that are at the bottom. In between, there is a lot of mediocrity/unknown. Some of that mediocrity comes from inconsistent play and some from injury. Either way, about 20 teams are battling for postseason berths.
The trade deadline has come and gone. Some teams identified themselves as organizations that are “going for it” and some have told the world they know they are done. Some of these transactions could make a difference down the stretch and into the postseason.
We’re hitting the stretch run now as we stare down Week 10. There is still more season ahead of us than behind but it’s about at that halfway point. Here are our latest power rankings:
1. Kansas City Chiefs (Last Week: 1)
2. Detroit Lions (Last Week: 2)
3. Baltimore Ravens: (Last Week: 3)
4. Houston Texans (Last Week: 4)
5. Buffalo Bills (Last Week: 5)
6. Minnesota Vikings (Last Week: 6)
7. Atlanta Falcons (Last Week: 7)
8. San Francisco 49ers (Last Week: 10)
9. Pittsburgh Steelers (Last Week: 11)
10. Washington Commanders (Last Week: 12)
11. Philadelphia Eagles (Last Week: 13)
12. Green Bay Packers (Last Week: 8)
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Last Week: 9)
The Kansas City Chiefs haven’t been incredible this season, but they are undefeated and have won the last two Super Bowls. That sentence doesn’t make a lot of sense, but it is true. With DeAndre Hopkins in the mix now, however, their offense might start to get back to normal. It is hard to bet against them.
The Detroit Lions probably deserve to be above the Chiefs based on the way that they’ve dominated, but you can’t bet against Patrick Mahomes right now. Outside of those two teams, everybody else in this tier is trying to get on their level. They all have flaws but have all proven that they can win consistently. Teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers have lost to better teams, but they have also earned some good wins.
14. Indianapolis Colts (Last Week: 14)
15. Denver Broncos (Last Week: 16)
16. Cincinnati Bengals (Last Week: 17)
17. Los Angeles Chargers (Last Week: 18)
18. Los Angeles Rams (Last Week: 22)
19. Seattle Seahawks (Last Week: 19)
20. Arizona Cardinals (Last Week: 20)
21. Chicago Bears (Last Week: 15)
22. Dallas Cowboys (Last Week: 21)
Every team in this group is a two-game win streak away from people starting to turn their heads on them. For that reason, they have to be in the “teams to watch tier.” If the Chicago Bears lose to the New England Patriots this weekend, however, they are in big trouble.
Out of every team in this tier, the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams have elite quarterbacks who can lead their teams to the promised land. They have played each other in the Super Bowl already and could do it again if everything went their way.
23. Las Vegas Raiders (Last Week: 23)
24. Cleveland Browns (Last Week: 24)
25. New York Giants (Last Week: 25)
26. New York Jets (Last Week: 26)
27. New Orleans Saints (Last Week: 27)
28. Tennessee Titans (Last Week: 28)
29. Miami Dolphins (Last Week: 29)
30. Jacksonville Jaguars (Last Week: 30)
31. New England Patriots (Last Week: 31)
32. Carolina Panthers (Last Week: 32)
These are the bad teams in the NFL. The bottom six are a tick worse than everybody else but none of these teams have what it takes to get into the playoffs. Even the New York Jets traded pieces away despite also adding Davante Adams a week prior.
Of all these teams, the Patriots and Carolina Panthers are the worst of them all. These two teams are likely going to be picked in the top three of the 2025 NFL draft. There is a lot of bad football being played and the teams in this tier know all about that.
