With a quarterback room led by veterans Deshaun Watson and Jameis Winston, the Cleveland Browns are reportedly fielding offers for one of their young signal-callers.
According to The Athletic’s Zac Jackson, league sources said that the Browns “have discussed a potential trade of second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson with multiple teams.”
Thompson-Robinson has impressed in both of Cleveland’s preseason games this year. In the team’s opener against the Green Bay Packers, he completed 14 of his 18 passes for 134 yards. This past weekend against the Minnesota Vikings, he went 13-of-17 for 126 with his lone blemish being an interception.
A fifth-round pick in the 2023 draft out of UCLA, Thompson-Robinson made three starts and appeared in eight games as a rookie before a hip injury ended his season in December. In his limited action last year, he threw for 440 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions while completing 53.6 percent of his passes. He also added 65 rushing yards.
Thompson-Robinson had been competing with fifth-year pro Tyler Huntley for Cleveland’s No. 3 quarterback position behind Watson and Winston. Huntley, who began his career with the Baltimore Ravens and made nine starts over the past three seasons, signed a one-year deal with the Browns in March.
Jackson noted that “it’s unclear if Cleveland is close to a deal” that would send Thompson-Robinson elsewhere. However, the team is believed to be seeking an experienced offensive lineman while starting tackles Jedrick Wills Jr. and Jack Conklin remain on the physically unable to perform list with knee injuries.
Thompson-Robinson will have another chance to show other teams what he can do when the Browns play their preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday.
