It was a wild Week 10 in the NFL, and we’re discussing it in today’s NFL Notes.
How many times has a quarterback thrown five interceptions and won an NFL game? In the last 30 years, only three quarterbacks have done it, with Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff becoming number three on Sunday night.
Goff threw five picks, the Texans took a healthy lead into the half, and still, the Lions found a way to stun the Texans in Houston on Sunday Night Football. After erasing a 16-point deficit, Detroit is now 8-1 and remains the cream of the crop in the NFC.
The Lions came back with 19 unanswered points, finishing with two critical field goals from Jake Bates: a 58-yarder with five minutes remaining and a 52-yarder as time expired, securing the win. The Texans (6-4) suffered a surprising defeat after their strong first half, where C.J. Stroud and the Houston offense dominated. However, Detroit’s defense shut them out in the second half.
“That is the definition of resiliency. You guys just kept banging away. We did whatever we had to do, and we just bought our time; defense was outstanding, man. That was outstanding. We knew it was just a matter of time; our offense, we got our points,” Campbell said in his post-game speech to the Lions locker room after the victory.

When it looked like the Kansas City Chiefs would suffer their first loss of the season, they found another way to win a football game that had us all in awe. Andy Reid’s bunch has made a habit of doing that for the better part of the last decade.
It wasn’t Patrick Mahomes’ wizardry this time. Mahomes didn’t even see this one coming. After the game, Mahomes said he wasn’t optimistic they would block Denver’s game-winning field goal attempt as time expired but admitted that nothing surprised him with his team at this point.
“If anyone’s going to do it, this team’s going to have a designed rush or designed way to get a hand on it,” Mahomes said. “You’re obviously worried. It’s out of your control, but at the same time, I’ve trusted my teammates that they’re going to go out there and make a play.”
Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal played hero this time, getting a hand on Wil Lutz’s 35-yard attempts, allowing the Chiefs to squeak out a 16-14 victory over Denver on Sunday, moving them to 9-0 on the season. You may remember Chenal blocked an extra point attempt in Super Bowl LVIII, helping the Chiefs eventually win that in overtime last February in Las Vegas.
But as usual, Chenal’s block came down to the unmatched preparation of Head Coach Andy Reid.
“We work on that block like crazy,” Reid said after the game.
The San Francisco 49ers needed a game-winning field goal that barely made it inside the right post to top Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Part of that is because kicker Jake Moody missed his three previous attempts, costing San Francisco nine points.
Things haven’t gone as planned for the 49ers this season, and wide receiver Deebo Samuel was seen in a heated exchange with long snapper Taybor Pepper and Moody on the sideline that began after Samuel confronted Moody on the San Francisco sideline after a third missed field goal.

Moody said after the game that he was glad he got a shot at redemption with his game-winning field goal and downplayed the sideline dust-up between him and Samuel.
“It’s an emotional game. Stuff like that happens all the time,” Moody said, adding he’s not looking for an apology from Samuel. “You just move past it. We won, so that’s all that matters.
“Like I said, heat of the moment, it happens. I do have to make those kicks at the end of the day. That’s all I’m focused on.”
Recently acquired wide receiver Mike Williams played hero on Sunday in the Pittsburgh Steelers victory over the Washington Commanders. Head coach Mike Tomlin worked Williams into the offense slowly. In fact, his 32-yard score that gave the Steelers the final lead was the first route Williams ran with his new team.
Williams was traded to Pittsburgh on Tuesday before the NFL trade deadline, and on Sunday, he was catching a game-winning touchdown pass from Russell Wilson. With the victory over the Commanders, Pittsburgh is now 7-2. They’re also unbeaten since Russell Wilson replaced Justin Fields at quarterback.
