CINCINNATI — The Bengals gave Trey Hendrickson permission to seek a trade on Thursday.
That means the NFL’s sack leader is available and can negotiate with 31 other teams. He’s expected to draw plenty of interest across the NFL.
What should the Bengals expect to get for Hendrickson? Well, the team trading for him is going to have to sign him to a long-term extension, which impacts his value.
CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones shared his thoughts on what Cincinnati could get in a Hendrickson trade.
“Probably a fair, call it conservative estimate, but probably a fair estimate is if the Bengals could get a high three (third round pick), they would love a low two (second round pick),” Jones said. “It’s probably going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of a high three.”

This is why paying him made more sense than trading him. A second or third round pick isn’t changing your franchise.
Maybe the Bengals can turn the extra cap space into a quality player or two, but Hendrickson would easily be the best pass rusher in this year’s free agent class.
