Since the Cleveland Browns season ended, all the focus has been on the NFL draft and the quarterbacks among those prospects. There are a lot of “what ifs” for the Browns this offseason but having the second overall pick puts them in a position to address their QB need with at worst the second-best one in this year’s class.
The concern many fans, especially when looking at different mock drafts, have had is just how good is this QB class especially compared to last year.
Most believe Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders will be selected very early this year with Jalen Milroe the most athletic of the top bunch. The NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, an NFL draft expert, did not have a quarterback being selected with the first two picks in his recent mock draft.
So how good are this year’s QBs?
According to Jeremiah’s recently released Big Board, very good but not among the top five prospects in this year’s class. DJ has Ward ranked 10th and Sanders just behind him at #11 but does not have Milroe ranked in the top 50.
Selecting the 10th-ranked player first or second only makes sense if that player plays a premium position. There is no position more premium than quarterback in the NFL so selecting Ward or Sanders much higher than their ranking could make sense.
Jeremiah’s board is led by DE Abdul Carter, WR/CB Travis Hunter, RB Ashton Jeanty (whose position is not considered premium which will drop him), DT Mason Graham and TE Tyler Warren.
If the Browns had Ward and Sanders ranked 10th and 11th, how would you feel about them picking one of them with the second overall pick? Does Jeremiah’s rankings give you more comfort or more concern about this year’s QB class?
