Deshaun Watson’s latest case has been closed.
The NFL’s latest investigation of the Browns quarterback concluded Friday, and per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, a league spokesman said there was insufficient evidence regarding a potential violation of the NFL’s conduct policy.
Watson, who had been sued in September, had reached a settlement with a sexual assault accuser earlier this fall.
“We are delighted to put this issue behind us so that Deshaun can concentrate on recovering from his injury and preparing for next season,” Watson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, said in a statement per Cleveland.com.
Watson, who is out for the rest of this season with a torn Achilles, served an 11-game suspension in 2022 due to 24 lawsuits of sexual misconduct and harassment, 23 of which he settled.
Along with the suspension for violating the NFL’s individual conduct policy, Watson paid a $5 million fine.
This latest case, closed due to lack of evidence, will mean Watson will avoid another suspension.
Watson is still on the books for a guaranteed $92 million over the next two seasons, with a base salary of $46 million each year, and will be a near $73 million cap hit each season.
Despite the high-profile nature of his addition to Cleveland, Watson has been one of the league’s worst quarterbacks since joining the Browns and is now ending a second straight season injured.
The Browns have since turned to Jameis Winston at quarterback.
Watson threw for 1,148 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions for Cleveland this season across seven starts, during which the Browns went 1-6.
Cleveland is 3-9 and just about out of the playoff hunt.
