No chance Josh Allen, the whole Bills organization and the fans are gonna forget the championship loss this year. Buffalo entered the conference championship after five years. But the result? They lost again, and that too against the same opponent: Kansas City Chiefs. Hurtful right? What hurt more was that their QB now stands 0-4 against Patrick Mahomes. That’s not the end. The Bills have other bad news after the heartbreak.
The NFL’s operations division’s update has choked the Bills for unsportsmanlike conduct, unnecessary roughness, and other reasons. The league has fined the players for the hits in the championship game. And who are those players fined by the NFL? The league fined Bills’ Jordan Phillips $6,722 for the unnecessary roughness in the second quarter of the AFC Championship game. He hammered his helmet on Travis Kelce‘s helmet when the Chiefs TE was trying to dominate another defender of the Bills after tackling down Mahomes.
And other than Phillips, the league also fined Bills linebacker Matt Milano. The Bills #58 will have to pay $11,255 for unnecessary roughness. They fined him for ‘facemask ‘-related roughness in the same game. Milano tackled Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt in the fourth quarter. Sadly, Harrison Butker scored a game-winning field goal after that.

But there was one more reason, the Bills–Chiefs invited backlash other than unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct. It could be what Bills HC Sean McDermott said to his team about referee bias before the championship game.

Well, McDermott had talked to the team in the locker room about what could happen in the championship game. Sean McDermott had said to Josh Allen and the team, “We’re not going to get calls.” The same situation had happened with the Texans. Their head coach DeMeco Ryans had clarified to the media after the divisional game: “We knew going into this game, it was us versus everybody. When I say everybody, it’s everybody. The naysayers, the doubt, everybody we had to go up against today.” This story perfectly fits with McDermott.

To elaborate, when addressing the press, Sean McDermott continued, “We went into the game and one of my messages to the team, and this happens from time to time, is you’re going to have to — you’re not going to get calls.” Josh Allen’s HC further added, “And I think just when you prepare a team, you prepare them ahead of time, mentally, for this is the way it’s going down. And you live with that. That’s not the reason why we lost.” Alright, the HC has said, it was their mistakes that made them lose the game and not the calls. However, several experts believe that the last one hustle was a 4th and down by Josh Allen. Fans also believe that Allen had crossed the 10-yard line. But god knows why the referees didn’t consider it!

However, the championship loss was a big hit for Josh Allen as the team’s leader. Reportedly, he did not talk to anyone for hours after the heartbreaking three-point loss. He is also the first quarterback in the league to lose to the same opponent four times. Buffalo wants Allen to be back with a winning mentality again. The next season starts on September 6. Let’s see what happens in the upcoming season.
