In a recent poll of NFL agents, the Pittsburgh Steelers were considered one of the best-run franchises in the league, and general manager Omar Khan got some love, also.
In an article by The Athletic’s Ben Standig that asked for the opinions of unnamed NFL agents on which franchises are run the best, the Steelers received two votes, which was tied for the fifth-most.
The only teams to get more votes were the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers.
“What a consistent, traditional franchise,” one agent said of the Steelers. “There’s no bull crap, and they win relatively consistently.”
Not really an argument to be had there. Head coach Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season over his 17 years at the helm, and the Steelers haven’t finished in last place since the late 80s. That also means the Steelers haven’t finished in last place since the inception of the AFC North in 2002.
When agents were asked to name the general manager they trust the most, Khan got two votes, tied for the third-most. New England Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf and Chiefs general manager Brett Veach were the only executives to receive more votes.
“Omar Khan and (Steelers assistant GM) Andy Weidl are a deadly combo,” wrote one agent. “They are the best.”
While being highly thought of by agents isn’t the end-all, be-all in landing free agents, it certainly helps. Clearly Khan isn’t lacking in that department.
