As a candidate, President-elect Donald Trump presented his Agenda 47 plan. However, some have growing concerns over two points that would directly impact the District.
“There could be a lot of damage done to how government functions,” said Jennifer Victor, Associate Professor of Political Science at George Mason University.
“It would be really hard for it to happen if the Democrats take control of the house,” Victor said.
Trump’s website outlines a 10-point plan for Agenda 47. The site says he plans to dismantle the deep state. There are ten points in the plan. Point two wants to overhaul federal departments and agencies. Point 8 states that it will move up to 100,000 government positions out of quote the “Washington swamp”.

“If Republicans wind up with control and in the house and there’s a unified form of government then there’s quite a bit we can expect to happen,” Victor said.
Hazel Thomas used to help place people at government jobs through the Purple Book. She’s the former President of the D.C. Federation of Democratic Women.
“If the incoming president eliminates jobs of that magnitude, it will affect the whole economy- retail, real estate banking the whole gamut,” Thomas said. “You should always look at the numbers and in this instance, the numbers again would be devastating to not just D.C. but the DMV.”
“The federal bureaucracy is vast and it’s complicated and it will take quite a bit of effort to undo it,” Victor said. “But the president’s efforts to control the bureaucracy are also vast if he has the full support of the legislature then we could see a real dismantling of the regulatory state in a way that would fundamentally change the lives of a lot of Americans.
